| Understanding Parenting Styles:
Authoritarian - Democratic-Permissive - Were
your parents strict, setting down lots of rules, or easy-going
with only a few rules? Most of us grew up with a pretty good
idea ci how our parents or guardians operated in the home. Strict.
.permissive. . .or somewhere in between, these different ways
of communicating with offspring are called parenting styles and
are usually a combination of the parenting role models learned
in the family as well as the parent's personality. In this video,
we'll look at vignettes which show the strengths and weaknesses
of three parenting styles. The autocratic style imposes will
through rigid rules and allows little flexibility or freedom.
The permissive style has no rules or structure and ahdicates
power. The democratic style is a blend of the others which shares
power, and encourages kids to make decisions and think for themselves.
Watch as our three teens interact with their parents in stressful
situations. Your students will not only get a clear idea of what
these three parenting styles are hut get to see them in action.
